Wolf and fox myth about death?

I'm trying to remember a native american myth I read involving Wolf and Fox. The myth involved Wolf creating death to keep humans from growing too numerous, and Fox being upset about it, but I can't remember exactly. I think I read it in a Charles de Lint novel, but I don't remember which one. If anyone knows it or can point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it.
