Help! I'm pretty sure this guy was physically attracted to me, but did I totally blow my chances?

I met this guy at some event, but I wasn't prepared to get his attention like I did. Without going into drawn out details, basically, I'm shy and everytime we made eye contact, I'd break and look away. The 30 seconds I had to talk to him, I think I totally blew it, but I want some other opinions, just incase I didn't....Long story short- I returned his eye contact and smile. I put out my hand to shake his and introduced myself. He shook my hand and I proceeded to explain that I had seen him before and wanted to meet him, but I was trampled by a wild herd of other girls (literally) and didn't gt the chance. He smiled and replied, " Yeah, I've met some REALLY interesting people at some of these events"....blah, blah, blah. So did I honestly screw this up or what?!" There's more, but I'm more concerned about the way I acted (like an ***).
