Is my landlord responsible for fixing water?

We live in a rental in the country, The town water well is located down the road from our house less than a mile. We have well water.We found out that the town water is double the legal uranium level! This is very bad! This explains the foul smell of our water, the ugly brown ish stains it leaves in the toilet/sink, and the funky taste we have noticed since we moved in. So what is our recouse? We cant drink it, we also have four kids, and a dog. Not sure what to ask of him. He would have to try to redrill the well, reverse osmosis,or somthing....Not sure what to ask for because the town water is also effected and they cant fix it either! SHould we ask for a rent discount if he cant fix the water? It is costing us a lot for buying water. Cant cook with it either. We have been living here for almost three years drinking the contaminated water. We just found out, what to do? Also looking for new house to rent, becuae of this. Not finding any yet.
